Legendary University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh ripped into abortion advocates during a fiery speech over the weekend.
Coach Harbaugh and his wife had been invited as special guest speakers to the Plymouth Right to Life event at the Inn at St. John’s, an event designed to raise money for pro-life organizations around the country.
When Harbaugh took the stage he explained his logic in being pro-life to the audience, saying he has worked with and raised many talented youngsters in his job and his personal life. He said the world would have missed out had any of them been aborted instead of being allowed to reach their potential in life.
“In God’s plan, each unborn human truly has a future filled with potential, talent, dreams and love,” Harbaugh said.
The coach continued, “I have living proof in my family, my children, and the many thousands that I’ve coached that the unborn are amazing gifts from God to make this world a better place. To me, the right choice is to have the courage to let the unborn be born.”
While Harbaugh has revealed his pro-life position in the past during interviews, the new speech to the pro-life organization takes his public stance on the issue even further than before. Many Twitter users took the opportunity to express their upset at Michigan’s head coach for voicing his opinion.
Former ESPN host Jamelle Hill said on her page that if the coach doesn’t like abortion, then he just shouldn’t get one.
Multiple other users referenced a 2019 interview with Harbaugh in which he seemed to suggest the issues facing the world at the time could be the result of God’s wrath.
The abortion debate has reached a boiling point in the United States since the repeal of Roe v Wade, with many celebrities and public figures taking sides on the issue after years of silence. For instance The View’s most liberal host Sunny Hostin revealed herself to be pro-life in all situations, shocking her fellow hosts.
The divide in America is clear an is unlikely to let up around such a contentious issue. Do you think this country is moving towards banning abortion outright or is this win for pro-lifers temporary and eventually we will bring back nationwide abortion access?
