ABC Chicago writes. A suburban sheriff and prosecutor are raising concerns about a controversial criminal justice reform law.
In addition to eliminating cash bail, this law also restricts who can be arrested as of January 1, 2023.
Many people currently locked up who cannot make bail will be able to get out of prison thanks to the Safe-T Act reforms that eliminate cash bail.
Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley is concerned about the law, which will prevent the arrest of people accused of certain misdemeanors. As an example, he cited trespassing.
The new Illinois law will move to cashless bail and will make some horrendous crimes non detainable.
Fox Chicago writes. A resolution was unanimously approved by the Orland Park Village Board Tuesday over the new Safety Accountability and Fairness Equity Today (SAFE-T) Act. The resolution demands that state legislators work with public safety representatives and community stakeholders to fix problems with the SAFE-T Act.
Orland Park’s Mayor Keikth Pekau, who is also running for congress, read his statement to the village board after passing their resolution.
