Truth Social, President Donald Trump’s social media app, has been approved for distribution on Google Play.
According to Axios, once the Truth Social’s app was approved, it was quickly published in the App Store for users to download.
In the U.S., Google’s Android operating system is used by nearly half of all smartphones, and users can access – and download – apps through the Google Play Store.
Google and the Trump Media & Technology Group have battled for months in order for the Truth Social app to be approved for the app store.
As we previously reported in early September, the Trump Media & Technology Group hit back after months of Google Play Store users not being able to download and use the Truth Social App.
At the time, a Google spokesperson said the platform did not have the “effective” moderation needed to comply with the Google Play app store’s terms of service. In particular, the outlet noted that Google was concerned about violations of the app’s policies prohibiting content with physical threats and incitements to violence.
As such, Trump Media & Technology Group hit back against Google’s claims in a statement, saying in part, “TMTG has continuously worked in good faith with Google to ensure that the Truth Social Android App complies with Google’s policies without compromising our promise to be a haven for free speech.”
In addition to being available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the Truth Social Android App is now also available in the Samsung Galaxy Store, as we reported last week.
