On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends,” White House NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby responded to a question on whether the White House agrees with protestors in China that Xi Jinping should go and COVID restrictions should be lifted.
As noted by Breitbart, During his response, Kirby stated the White House was “on the side of peaceful protest” and wasn’t taking sides about what the protestors were protesting about.
Eventually, he said frustration with China’s “very severe and very stringent COVID policies” drove the public protests.
Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers are urging the White House to fully support the protesters by condemning the clear violation of human rights.
Tennessee Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn, for example, tweeted, “Freedom fighters in China are standing up to the Chinese Communist Party and their consistent violation of human rights. That is something to commend.”
The people of China are protesting against their communist government for a variety of reasons, including freedom from COVID lockdowns and an end to human rights violations. It is essential that the Biden administration takes a strong stand in support of these protesters, lest their silence and decision to “not take sides” be taken as a sign of approval for the Chinese government’s actions.
