In a statement, Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala) pledged to hold Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin accountable for his plans to fund thousands of abortions, most of which would be paid for by taxpayers.
Until the Defense Department terminates its abortion policy that allows thousands of abortions to be performed on service members and their families, the GOP Senator is threatening to place holds on nominations for senior civilian and military posts.
In a letter to Austin, Tuberville calls the woke policy “irresponsible,” since it ensures service members can still have abortions even if they are stationed in a state that restricts the procedure.
In addition, according to Tuberville, most Americans find abortion repugnant, and it would be irresponsible to make such a controversial change to department policy without knowing how it will affect readiness of the force.”
By the end of the year, the DOD plans to implement their policy. Nine of President Joe Biden’s nominations have already been held by Tuberville, and he promises to keep them on hold until the DOD reverses its stance on abortion.
In a tweet, Tuberville said the plan is “not only a severe misuse of taxpayer dollars, it’s illegal. I will hold [Austin] accountable.”
Senator Tommy Tuberville is taking strong action to ensure that the strong moral core of America’s military remains strong and untainted by politicization. His recent letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin rightfully placed the Department of Defense on notice for their push to fund abortion services with taxpayer money. This move shows that Sen. Tuberville is serious about standing strong for his conservative values and will not allow taxpayers to be forced into funding abortions, something that a large portion of the population does not agree with. In an effort to accomplish this goal, he has threatened to place holds on nominations for senior civilian and military posts until this policy is terminated. It is clear from his stern stance that Senator Tuberville believes it is unacceptable to use taxpayers’ money for policies they do not support and stands strong for strong moral values in America’s military.
