On Sunday, dozens of protesters launched a coordinated attack on police officers in Atlanta Georgia. Now, the city police have released video from that night that shows exactly why officials are calling the attack “very violent” as the White House turns a blind eye to the entire situation.
On Sunday evening, a fiery riot took place at a training center for police, firefighters, and EMTs in Atlanta. Aerial footage appears to show those attending the riot making their way to the center.
The Atlanta Public Safety Training Center has been labeled “Cop City” by critics amid protests by anti-police and environmental activists.
The Atlanta PD released a video showing more than 100 people walking in a large group before cutting to some close-ups of chaotic moments during what officials are calling a domestic terrorism incident.
Another video released by Atlanta PD showed protesters throwing items including large rocks, bricks, Molotov cocktails, and fireworks at police officers.
While speaking to reporters after the attack, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum called the incident a “very violent attack,” adding, “this wasn’t about a public safety training center – this was about anarchy.”
Police said officers used non-lethal enforcement and restraint to arrest at least 35 people. Twenty-three people are facing charges of domestic terrorism, a felony punishable by up to 35 years in prison. The list provided by the police shows only two of the people are from Georgia, while the rest are from other states as well as Canada and France.
In a statement, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said “domestic terrorism will NOT be tolerated in this state,” and pledged, “We will not rest until those who use violence and intimidation for an extremist end are brought to full justice.”
It is shameful and disappointing that the White House has chosen to remain silent on this matter. What happened at the Atlanta training center was a full-blown, coordinated attack of heinous violence and aggression towards police officers who simply wake up each morning and do their jobs to support themselves and their families – just like everyone else. The video Atlanta PD released showcases an unspeakable level of brutality and should be met with absolute condemnation. To ensure this does not happen again, we must take a stand against these extremists by prosecuting those responsible to the full extent of the law. We cannot give such outrageous acts of violence a pass.
