Asked about the possibility of raising taxes in the city, CBS News host Vladimir Duthiers pushed back at incoming Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. On Tuesday, Johnson defeated Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas in a runoff election.

Now, as reported by the Daily Caller, in an interview with CBS, Johnson spoke about the need to increase community services, such as health care and youth employment, to reduce crime.

Among other things, he called for police to receive more support from social workers, counselors, and EMTs.

As a result, the host pushed back on Johnson’s remarks, asking how exactly he plans to fund all of these budget items without raising taxes.

Johnson will be inaugurated as Mayor on May 15th.

Hopefully the mainstream media will be keeping a close eye on Johnson’s actions moving forward. After Lori Lightfoot’s disastrous time as mayor, Chicago needs a real leader and someone who is held accountable. For the sake of the City of Chicago and all of the people who call the city home, we can only pray Johnson steps up to the plate and does his due diligence to turn the city around.
