On March 5, 2021, Officer Patrick McCarty was on a routine patrol when he encountered a vehicle with a passenger, later identified as Dennis Guider Jr. Upon conducting a background check, Officer McCarty discovered that Guider had an active warrant for his arrest from Illinois. Officer McCarty promptly and professionally informed Guider of the situation and requested that he exit the vehicle.
As Officer McCarty was attempting to detain Guider, he attempted to flee the scene. Officer McCarty, who was determined to prevent this dangerous criminal from escaping, drew his weapon as a warning. However, the driver ignored this warning and accelerated the vehicle, forcing Officer McCarty to take drastic measures to stop him.

In a courageous and decisive gesture, Officer McCarty clung to the hood of the vehicle as it veered dangerously and recklessly through the streets. Despite the highly dangerous situation, Officer McCarty remained steadfast in his commitment to protecting the public and preventing the escape of this dangerous criminal.
Despite the gravity of the situation, other law enforcement officers arrived swiftly to assist in the apprehension of the driver. However, even with the additional support, Officer McCarty’s persistence in performing his duty placed him in grave danger.
Unfortunately, Officer McCarty sustained severe injuries to his back after falling from the hood of the vehicle when it hit a ditch. This was a direct result of the driver’s flagrant disregard for the law and the safety of others.
The criminal driver’s callous and cowardly attempt to evade justice only further demonstrates the need for law enforcement to be vigilant in enforcing the law and bringing criminals to justice. This dangerous individual was sentenced to five years in prison as a direct result of the brave actions of law enforcement professionals like Officer McCarty.
