Chicago residents are expressing their extreme anger over the city’s lackadaisical policies regarding the health records and vaccine status of illegal students that are flooding area schools. While Chicago parents must annually provide residency, citizenship, health, and vaccination records for their children to attend school, this rule is ignored for the illegal students. During a recent appearance on Fox & Friends First, Jennifer Preston, a local mother, expressed her frustration with the hypocrisy of the situation, stating that the lack of compliance with rules for migrants is “certainly inconsistent with what they’re allowing for the migrant children coming into the Chicago public schools.” According to Fox 32, about 40 to 50 migrant children are expected to enroll in one elementary school in the Little Village area, and a nearby high school will take up to a dozen of these students for the last few weeks of the school year.
This absolutism regarding vaccinations has stirred up frustration among the locals and sparked debate around the ill-treatment, especially around the migrant community. The residents of Chicago were further indignant during a meeting arranged by authorities for temporary housing for migrants. Meanwhile, in New York, experts have confirmed the presence of the poliovirus in two rural counties, and it is believed that hundreds of New Yorkers may have infected.
Additionally, New York City has reported the country’s first-ever incidents of ringworm infections, which are highly contagious and resistant to common anti-fungal treatments, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These unsettling realities prove how extremely concerning the laxity around migrant children attending schools has become. Whether it’s disregarding the health records of the children, or not maintaining check on the necessary vaccination records, it deepens the chances of widespread infections and diseases.
This new development has left parents furious about the authorities’ treatment of its own citizens’ health and safety while ignoring the vulnerabilities of the migrant population. It is evident that the city officials need to enforce necessary health measures for all; without such regulation, the wellbeing of the entire city and surrounding areas is at risk. It is high time to stop playing with people’s lives and adhere to regulatory norms for the greater good, or else the imminent health crisis is all but certain.
