In a bold attack on free speech, YouTube is threatening conservative outlet MRCTV for allegedly spreading “hate speech” against pedophiles. This is no joke.
YouTube “temporarily suspended” the MRCTV channel on Wednesday due to a violation of “Community Guidelines,” according to a notice sent to MRCTV. The banned video featured remarks by Brittany Hughes, Managing Editor of MRCTV, on the dangers of imposing left-wing gender ideology and transgenderism on children and how this could lead to sexual abuse.
The video, titled “Pushing gender confusion and drag in kids isn’t the left’s endgame. The final outcome is much worse,” criticized a hair-brained USA Today-article from January 2022, which claimed pedophilia is one of the “most misunderstood” sexual disorders. Hughes ridiculed the article, saying, “We’re misunderstanding pedophiles, you know?”
According to screenshots obtained by MRC Free Speech America, YouTube claimed that the MRCTV video violated their ludicrous “Community Guidelines” on “hate speech” and banned the organization from publishing content and livestreaming for 13 days.
The free speech-limiting platform threatened the conservative channel with a permanent ban if they don’t submit to YouTube’s left-wing guidelines. YouTube stated, “One more strike will result in the permanent removal of your channel.”
MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider criticized YouTube’s attack on MRCTV, stating, “Astonishingly, YouTube thinks the political debate over whether child sex predators should have contact with children is settled.” He added, “This is emblematic of everything that is wrong with YouTube. These platforms should be spaces where people can have open debates and political discussions.”
Why did YouTube censor a video criticizing a media outlet for defending individuals who pose a threat to children? Predictably, YouTube did not immediately respond to comments from MRC Free Speech America before publication.
This isn’t the first time YouTube has targeted MRCTV. According to MRC Free Speech America’s exclusive CensorTrack.org database, YouTube’s anti-free speech page has attacked MRCTV a total of five times in three years with bogus claims of COVID-19 misinformation and other community violations.
