Texas GOP lawmakers are being targetted by New York Times’ economics writer Paul Krugman who has accused them of having an “anti-woke mind virus” for prioritizing the use of fossil fuels over green energy. Krugman seemingly undermines the recent power crisis Texas experienced due to an overreliance on renewables, and ignores the failure of green energy to keep the lights on.

Krugman’s outburst stemmed from his belief that Texas Republicans are turning their backs on renewable energy projects in favor of fossil fuels, which he argued were driven by greed. His baseless claim that the GOP is succumbing to an “anti-woke mind virus” appears to disregard the fact that green energy has proven to be ineffective in meeting energy demands. Krugman’s ignorance of the losses many Texans faced, including deaths during the February 2021 winter storm, when wind turbines froze and caused statewide blackouts further highlights his bias.

Despite Krugman’s insistence that “renewable energy is just good business,” he fails to acknowledge the unsustainable nature of wind power. Instead, he choses to characterize the GOP’s actions as driven by their disdain for anything he considers “woke,” which he dubiously defines as acknowledgement of social injustice and support for the public good. Krugman remains oblivious to the real issues at hand while focusing on partisan ideology.
