**Senate Passes Debt Ceiling Bill, Betraying Conservative Values with So-Called “Compromise”**
On Thursday night, the Senate approved the debt ceiling bill, supposedly brokered by Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Joe Biden. Despite the lip service paid to “compromise,” the truth is that this legislation represents a betrayal of conservative principles, with 17 GOP turncoats joining 46 Democrats to rubberstamp this disastrous deal.
The bill, which raises the government’s borrowing limit, averts a potential default on the national debt until 2025. However, it also normalizes the record high spending levels brought on during the pandemic, making them the baseline for future expenditure. Furthermore, it absurdly suspends the debt ceiling limit entirely until January 2, 2025, rather than setting a cap on the amount of borrowing.
This abdication of fiscal responsibility is far from the only issue with the bill. The legislation falls short in reining in the out-of-control IRS and even fails to cut the $41 billion it claims to reduce in the first year – an amount suspiciously equivalent to the outstanding unspent COVID funds.
In addition, the bill fails to deliver on several other promises, such as properly adjusting the work requirements for SNAP or repealing the student loan forgiveness executive order. It also caters to special interests, as seen in Senator Joe Manchin’s irrelevant pipeline carve-out. Worst of all, it fully funds the Biden administration’s ruinous spending requests.
Despite its failings, the bill the House eagerly capitulated to the Biden regime, allowing for 87,000 new IRS agents to continue their unchecked reign of terror against working-class Americans and conservative groups. This so-called “Inflation Reduction Act” apportions $79.6 billion to the IRS over the next decade, exemplifying reckless spending and government overreach.
Thankfully, there remains a glimmer of hope for true conservatives in the form of a potential “motion to vacate,” which could see Speaker McCarthy ousted from his position due to his role in pushing through this disastrous debt deal. If passed, it would send a message to McCarthy and other Republicans who betray conservative values: we will hold you accountable.
**Time for Conservatives to Stand Up and Hold Weak-Willed Republicans Accountable**
While the debt ceiling bill might have temporarily averted a default on the national debt, it also represents a much more sinister problem: the betrayal of conservative principles within the GOP. As this horrifying legislation proves, too many Republicans have become mere rubber stamps for the radical Biden administration. It’s time for true conservatives to take a stand, draw a line in the sand, and hold those who betray our core values accountable.
