Black Chicago residents erupted in anger during a city council meeting on Wednesday after it was disclosed that $51 million was to be allocated to support migrants in Chicago. The city council was criticized for funding migrants over their own community, as the city is facing homelessness and mental health crises. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas began busing migrants from the southern border to the Windy City in August 2022, and since then, approximately 2,000 migrants have arrived through the effort. The federal authorities saw more than 2.3 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2022 at the southern border.
