DeSantis made the remarks during an appearance on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show,” where host Travis questioned whether January 6 defendants deserve examination by a Republican president, and if Biden would consider pardoning Trump himself based on any potential charges.
President Joe Biden’s actions towards the press have once again come under scrutiny. During a Memorial Day event, Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Biden about comments made by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis regarding pardoning Trump. Biden simply laughed and walked away from the gathering without answering the question.
In response, DeSantis acknowledged that the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have been weaponized, resulting in unfair treatment towards various demographics, including parents at school board meetings and pro-life demonstrators. DeSantis also noted the uneven application of justice, such as the failure to arrest violent pro-abortion extremists.
DeSantis asserted that “on day one,” he would have people examine all cases where individuals were victims of weaponization by the government and be aggressive in addressing them. He cited examples of disfavored treatment based on politics or weaponization, regardless of how small or big the case is. Further questioned by Travis if this applied to the over-prosecution of January 6 defendants or Trump himself, DeSantis emphasized that this applies to any example of disfavored treatment based on politics or weaponization.
With Trump potentially facing charges under a special counsel, Jack Smith, appointed to investigate him, the notion of pardoning Trump has been a highly discussed topic amongst Republican candidates. With at least one of them being the likely nominee to face Biden in the 2024 election, it remains to be seen what impact this may have on the race.
It is troubling to witness Biden’s lack of transparency and accessibility. Escaping to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend while the nation faces crucial issues and refusing to provide straightforward answers to critical questions erodes public trust in his leadership.
