**Maryland Democrat labels Muslim parents as white supremacists for protesting LGBT content in schools**

The imposition of LGBT activist literature onto children against their parents’ wishes has caused controversy in Maryland, with some left-wing politicians accusing the opposing parents – including minorities and Muslims – of aligning with white supremacists. The heated debate reveals the tension brewing within the Democratic party and exposes a schism on the left.

Parents in Montgomery County, Maryland, including Muslims and Christians, have protested the county’s public schools’ decision to disallow families from excluding their children from lessons containing LGBTQ-Inclusive texts and content conflicting with their religious beliefs. These parents used their constitutional right to assemble peacefully, chanting “protect our children” and “religious freedom now.” Regardless of religious or political affiliations, most parents want to retain the right to decide their children’s exposure to controversial subjects.

However, Montgomery County Councilwoman Kristin Mink (D) displayed the clash within Democratic party allies at a recent school board meeting, accusing Muslim parents who uphold religious values over LGBT teachings of being on the same side as “white supremacists and outright bigots.” Mink also noted that the issue of LGBT activist literature is “not an infringement on, you know, particular religious freedoms.”
