In the latest example of leftist insanity, tens of thousands of illegal aliens in Massachusetts are eagerly rushing to receive driver’s licenses. A new law extended driving privileges to those who have illegally entered the United States. The state’s Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) reports that about 100,000 requests for appointments have been made since July 1, when the law went into effect. The vast majority of these appointments were likely made by illegal aliens.

Massachusetts is now the 17th state to provide driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, joining California, New York, Colorado, and Connecticut, among others. Supporters of the law argue that it helps ensure safety on the road and that it prevents driving with no documentation (which is the root of many potential accidents). However, opponents point out that this move unfairly grants privileges to those who have broken the law to come to the United States.
State officials have claimed that nearly 300,000 illegal aliens in Massachusetts could apply for driver’s licenses within the first four years of the law. This will cost taxpayers at least $28 million to implement. Such policies would incentivize more illegal aliens to flood into the United States, taking resources and jobs away from American citizens. This is an affront to the rule of law and a disregard for the safety and wellbeing of American communities.
Last year, 19-year-old illegal alien Everton Candido became the poster child for the driver’s license initiative after he was arrested for allegedly killing a 77-year-old Army National Guard veteran named Walter Wishoski Jr in a fatal accident while driving without a license. If illegal aliens are driving without a license, then it makes sense to increase enforcement to get them off the road, not reward them with official IDs.
The open borders lobby, with the help of elected Democrats, seeks to eliminate any privileges intended solely for American citizens and legal immigrants. That’s why they are pushing so hard for driver’s licenses for illegal aliens. With these documents in hand, it will be harder for local law enforcement to deport them once they come into contact. This is a dangerous game to play for the safety and security of our country.
According to estimates, around 316,000 illegal aliens reside in Massachusetts. It is time to send a message to the radical left that American taxpayers will not foot the bill for their reckless and dangerous policies. We must secure our borders and uphold the rule of law to protect our citizens. Giving driver’s licenses to those who have illegally entered our country is just the beginning of a slippery slope that threatens our nation’s sovereignty.
