The crisis at the US-Mexico border is reaching fever pitch as the Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended over 5,000 migrants in just four days. This comes amidst a recent shift from the Texas-based border sector, which has seen a drop in migrant apprehensions thanks to Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star. However, states like Arizona, under Joe Biden’s leadership, continue to allow the flood of illegal immigrants to surge into our country.
The alarming truth is that many of these migrants coming into the Tucson Sector are not seeking to surrender and seek asylum but rather crossing the border illegally between ports of entry. In the past week alone, agents apprehended approximately 9,000 migrants, with a year-to-date total of 234,667 migrant apprehensions. In comparison, agents apprehended only 195,115 during the same period last year, marking a significant rise in illegal immigration under Biden’s open border policies.

Tucson Sector Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin took to Twitter to inform the American people that herculean efforts by border patrol agents resulted in the apprehension of 5,281 illegals in just four days. Sadly, this is just the tip of the iceberg. During the month of June, Tucson Sector agents apprehended 24,360 migrants between ports of entry. The numbers are up significantly from the totals in FY20 and FY21, with Tucson Sector remaining the only non-Texas-based southwest border sector showing increased migrant apprehensions this year over last.
The irony is that while Governor Abbott has launched Operation Lone Star to fill in the gaps created by Biden’s reckless policies, states like Arizona continue to follow President Biden’s lead. This is why Operation Lone Star has been so successful in reducing illegal immigration in Texas, with the state National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers apprehending over 393,000 illegal immigrants and repelled more than 49,000 illegal immigrants.
The crisis at the US-Mexico border is spiraling out of control, with criminals and drug lords using the chaos as an opportunity to sneak their way into communities across the country. Abbott’s press secretary makes it clear that until President Biden steps up and does his job, Texas will continue to utilize every tool and strategy to respond to this border crisis. At a time when the country is grappling with economic, political, and public health crises, the last thing we need is a border crisis that could threaten our national security and sovereignty. The Biden administration must do better.
