Pop open your news apps, folks: the liberal media is betting their shirts on President Biden’s success in 2024, and on Thursday’s Morning Joe, co-host Joe Scarborough held tight to a hope-inspiring article by Nate Cohn of The New York Times. Cohn’s theory: it’ll take only the slightest poll skew for Biden to clasp victory.

Cohn proposes that even if polls perfectly set Trump to win today, Biden maintains a legitimate shot at the November win. He theorizes that Biden could clinch a win with the absolute least Electoral College votes necessary.

Scarborough omitted that he predicted Trump’s win in 2016, but conveniently forgot his reassurances to Democrats just before the 2016 election that Hillary was sure to win. He also dismissed his failed 2018 prediction that Trump wouldn’t run for president in 2020.

He even managed to shoehorn his former congressional role into the narrative, insisting that while competitors wasted their time at public appearances, he was tirelessly campaigning door to door.

Back in May, Scarborough was criticizing the New York Times, claiming its polls were biased against Biden to create fodder for articles. He had a heated exchange with panelist John Heilemann over the supposed conspiracy. Today, Heilemann sugared Scarborough up, suggesting the Times may have taken on board his rebuke and published Cohn’s article as a ‘useful corrective’.

Scarborough’s tendency to slant feathers few, as he bypasses engaging with non-partisan election analyst Sean Trende’s pertinent article “Are We Too Bearish on Trump?” Trende argues the race isn’t the close call most analysts assume, suggesting Trump holds the lead. He attributes the analysts’ overly pessimistic view of Trump’s odds to internalized biases.

Scarborough, however, won’t engage with Trende’s analysis. His mission is to uplift Biden’s base and his buddy in the Oval Office.

Let’s take a closer look at the MSNBC’s Morning Joe transcript and cut through the spin:

The New York Times released an article suggesting Biden’s re-election was still a close race, pinning the outcome on winning Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania – hang on, haven’t we heard this before?

Biden, according to Cohn, has already completed the hard graft. Even if the polls were perfect and indicating a Trump win, Biden’s still in the running for a November victory.

We’ve got Scarborough, reminiscing about his 2016 Trump victory call, assuring us that Biden’s in a goo place. He points out the strong on-the-ground organization from Biden’s team. Scarborough seems committed to maintaining faith in Biden’s 2024 chances.

Heilemann chimes in for a welcome relief, discussing the New York Times listening to Scarborough’s previous concerns. Just another day in the media circus, folks.

To cap things off, the liberal spin machine is in overdrive, with Democratic hand-wringing and grandiloquent reporting. But let’s not forget to balance the scales with a glance at the diligent conservative analysis, too.
