Google once again pulls the rug right from under the former President’s feet. Donald Trump’s campaign site is being buried in the vast sea of Google! Despite his site drawing mass traffic after the verdict he weathered in New York, Google keeps his website hidden.
The verdict got much attention and the site was swarmed by visitors wanting to donate to Trump. But it seems that Google has other plans. Instead of featuring the ex-POTUS’ campaign site on the first page of search results like it did for every other presidential candidate, our man is nowhere to be seen. Not even a click away! All the other contenders of the 2024 presidential race – including Biden and RFK Jr. – get front-page attention on the most popular search engine.
MRC Free Speech America asserts this is Google repeating its history of choking campaigns and stifling supporters. Besides ranking Trump’s website invisibly low, Google didn’t feature the WinRed website as well, where Trump’s donation page had crashed due to the high influx of donors.
Interestingly, only three out of the top 10 search results related to Trump involved the verdict. Has Google become so biased that it’s filtering out impactful election information?
Evidently, there’s a pattern. Presidential candidate websites from all sides – Biden, RFK Jr., and even a Constitution Party candidate Randall Terry – get ranked fourth in unique search results. The campaign sites of Democrat Williamson and Green Party’s West are all over page one.
Set the bias aside, and it’s clear that Google is playing with fire. We know that they control a whopping 92% of the worldwide search engine market share. And we also know that ranking higher on Google results into more clicks – a fact confirmed by search engine optimization expert, Brain Dean. The lower a link ranks on Google, the fewer people reach it.
In May 2023, Dean’s blog Backlinko disclosed that the ‘#1 result in Google gets 27.6% of all clicks’. The tenth result? Only 10% of those clicks. Bury the website in the second page of search results? Not even 1% (.63%) of users make it that far. Clearly, Google’s ranking strategy heavily influences the odds of users finding websites.
For this analysis, the folks at MRC had used an algorithm to study Google’s results for the 2024 presidential candidates on May 31. They were seeking unbiased results by creating a ‘clean environment’, removing all influences of prior search history and tracking cookies.
