It has now come out that left-wing billionaire George Soros pumped a million dollars into the governor campaign of Beto O’Rourke who is running against incumbent Governor Greg Abbott.
The donation was confirmed by the Texas Ethics Commission in a filing that was published Tuesday. O’Rourke’s campaign spokesperson also confirmed the legitimacy of the donation in a statement to The Hill.
He gave the governor candidate the money last month when the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the right to legislate abortion to individual states.
Abbott’s campaign spokesman Mark Miner gave a statement on the large donation and said, “It’s no surprise Beto O’Rourke received a $1 million campaign contribution from billionaire George Soros, liberal Democrats’ favorite check writer, given they both support defunding our police, open borders and radical energy policies.”
Soros is not the only million-dollar donation to the campaign. O’Rourke also received contributions from Trench and Simone Coxe.
In a Tweet, the usually quiet Soros said, “The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn #RoeVWade ends federal protections for abortion, diminishes human rights, and greatly threatens reproductive care. We have invested in reproductive rights organizations that are fighting back at this moment.”
Currently, Beto O’Rourke is five points behind Governor Greg Abbott in the race. The main issues on voters’ minds was inflation, public safety concerns, government spending and taxes, health care costs, and the economy.
O’Rourke has raised $27.6 million and has beaten Gov. Greg Abbott’s $24.9 million.

This is a record-breaking fundraising haul in the race.
After the news came out, O’Rourke put out an email, “Our grassroots donors have finally outpaced Abbott’s corporate mega-donors — right as new polls show his lead shrinking to just 5 points (a 10-point drop) and a growing majority of Texans say they disapprove of the direction Texas is heading in under his failed leadership.”
“More than ever, it is clear that we have the momentum to defeat Greg Abbott.”
His campaign says that he had over a half a million individual contributions.
However, O’Rourke has only $23.9 million cash-on-hand and Abbott still has $45.7 million, according to The Texan.
Are you surprised that Soros has put his money behind an anti-gun, anti-police governor candidate in Texas? This is one of his first forays into Texas politics and shows that the billionaire wants to upset one of the strongest conservative states. What do you think Soros’ game plan is here?
