As arrest rates go down in the Democrat-run city of Chicago, crime is going up.

According to public city data, in 2022, there have been at least 2,422 robberies so far but only 145 arrests – which is 41 percent less in 2022 than in 2019.

Meanwhile, there have been 3,980 motor vehicle thefts this year – but only about 136 arrests. As noted by RNC Research on Twitter, that amounts to about three of every 100.

3,980 reported motor vehicle thefts citywide this year is 47% more to date versus the last pre-Covid year of 2019, 62% more than in 2020, and 41% more than in 2021.

At its current pace, Chicago is on track for at least 12,000 car thefts this year – almost 33 thefts a day.

When asked for comment on why they think arrest rates have been so low, the Chicago Police Department released in a statement, “The Chicago Police Department is focused on enhancing public safety in all of Chicago’s communities through increased visibility, positive engagement, and consistent collaboration. Arrests for murders and aggravated batteries have increased year to date compared to last year as CPD continues its tireless efforts to remove violent offenders from the streets. The effort to combat violent crime is part of the Department’s partnership with city departments and agencies to address the root causes of violence.”

Data by the Chicago Police Department further shows that theft in the city is up 66% from one year ago – surging from 2801 to 4655 cases. Burglary is also up 36% from last year, going from 1584 to 2155 cases.
