Welcome, friends, to another week of yet another fake Supreme Court scandal being touted by ABC’s The View. In particular, Whoopi Goldberg was crying foul over a surreptitiously recorded audio aimed at embarrassing Justice Samuel Alito and his wife. Surprisingly, some of her fellow hosts disagreed with her.

Our story revolves around a clandestinely recorded audio that was obtained by Lauren Windsor, a liberal activist known for her fake persona targeting conservative politicians. She successfully baited Whoopi into musing about a class action lawsuit against the justices, despite many of the other hosts not seeing the gravity that Whoopi felt.

Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin, who were present, didn’t fully buy into the scandal, unlike Goldberg. Haines found the method of obtaining the tape unethical and deceitful. She also found the reality of the recording much less scandalous than the headlines reported, stating plainly that Justice Alito remained polite and nicely handled the questions.

To her credit, Haines cautioned against dangerous moves to delegitimize the highest court in the land. She acknowledged the role of the court as law interpreters and not moral quotients, whose job is not to dictate the morality of the nation, but to interpret the Constitution and uphold the law, leaving the direction of the country to Congress – the representatives of the people.

It’s true that Haines and Farah Griffin, who also supported Haines’ views, indeed played into the systemic degradation of the Court in the past. be that as it may, on this occasion, their comments conveyed a refreshing perspective.

The theatre of The View this Tuesday was, to say the least, entertaining. Goldberg was up in arms over an audio recording, obtained unethically, that offered little more than a glimpse of justices doing their job conscientiously, while some of her co-hosts disagreed. Against all odds, sanity appeared to prevail on The View.

For those daydreaming about class action lawsuits against the Supreme Court for perceived scandals, it might be time to wake up. The alarm bells are ringing and sensible voices, notable even amongst the hosts of The View, are suggesting that we should hold our horses and remember that the phrase “innocent until proven guilty” still holds. The Supreme Court justices should always be left to perform their duties without unwarranted interruptions from conspiracists or those seeking some fifteen minutes of fame. Here’s to hoping sanity prevails over scandal next week.
