Host of the View Whoopi Goldberg took a strong stance against AR-15 ownership in the United States following a string of devastating mass shootings around the country.
Goldberg, who tends to lean liberal on most of her personal views as is, declared that AR-15’s “got to go”. She claimed that the gun is the reason why people in Buffalo cannot buy groceries after a mass shooting by a white supremacist left 10 dead.
“Listen, this AR-15’s got to go. I’m sorry,” Goldberg said. “I think about the people up in Buffalo, who are still suffering because they still can’t go shop anywhere because nobody will bring a supermarket where these folks are living.”
She continued by referencing “too many damn kids” lost to the weapon too, presumably a reference to the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas where a lone gunman killed 19 kids and 2 adults with an AR-15.
“There is too much at stake here, too many lives have been at stake, too many damn little kids.” Whoopi exclaimed
She then told the NRA that they can feel free to defend any “other yee-haw guns” they want and she will not object, as long as they are willing to ban the AR-15. She expressed her opinion that this particular weapon was not ideal for hunting and was only made to kill people.
“I am sick of seeing people talk about, ‘Well, we should do something.’ No, we should do something. And I don’t care, NRA, you’ve got to give that gun up. You can have other yee-haw guns, whatever you want. The AR-15 is not a hunting gun. It is not a gun where you’re going to go out and shoot your dinner. This gun is meant to kill people. That’s what it’s for, and you can’t have it anymore,” she said.
Whoopi Goldberg closed her statement by saying people simply cannot have this sort of weapon. “You can’t have this gun because it kills people and children, and I’m sick of it.”
Co-host Joy Behar also weighed in on the debate, claiming that the real reason it took police 45 minutes to enter the barricaded classroom and take down the gunman is because they were “scared” of his weapon.
The real reason police refused to enter the classroom is because they had been ordered by their department to contain the subject, claiming they believed there were no survivors inside.
The push to ban AR-15’s after these most recent massacres is quickly growing as election day approaches. Vice President Kamala Harris already called for a ban on all “assault weapons” and President Biden has even hinted at possible action taken against handguns.
Do you think it’s reasonable that all of these celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg are so scared of this particular style of weapon? Do you think there should be restrictions on the sale of these guns?
