Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, is under fire for attempting to transfer migrants to surrounding counties. In response, over 30 counties issued executive orders banning hotels in their area from accepting migrants sent by Adams. The orders were made after the mayor decided to house migrants in hotels located in other counties across the state, despite the fact that the city itself is a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Adams took legal action against the orders, alleging that they were based on “specious claims.” However, county officials argue that the influx of migrants has already put a huge strain on local resources, and Adams’ plan is not sustainable. The dispute looks set to continue and has divided the opinion of people across the state.
