The White House has once again proved its incompetency and ignorance towards the skyrocketing inflation crisis the country is facing. On Tuesday, the White House tweeted a chart claiming that inflation reached a low of 4%, marking it as a victory for the current administration. However, what the Biden administration conveniently left out was the fact that inflation had skyrocketed to a staggering 9% since President Biden took office.
Former President Donald Trump’s administration maintained a moderate inflation rate of 2%, with a record low of 1.2% in his last year in the White House. Sadly, under Biden’s administration, the inflation rate has hit an all-time high in the last four decades. This situation has caused significant distress to Americans across the country, who are struggling to keep up with the skyrocketing prices of basic amenities.
The White House’s tweet was rightly criticized by conservatives across the country. Steve Guest, the former communications director for Senator Ted Cruz, pointed out that the moment President Biden took office, inflation took off. Another conservative commentator, Justin Haskins, argued that the current administration’s argument gaslights people who do not understand how inflation works.
Amidst all this, the Biden administration is busy patting itself on the back for a relatively moderate decrease in the inflation rate from May. However, experts predict that the current decline is not enough to convince policymakers at the Federal Reserve that the US is out of the woods. Core prices, which the Fed mainly focuses on, rose for six straight months in May, indicating that the current administration needs to do more to alleviate the economic crisis.
The White House also conveniently left out the fact that the slight inflation rate decrease in May was due to lower gas prices and increases in grocery prices and other items, according to POLITICO. As a result, the decrease is unlikely to address the root cause of the inflation crisis that the country is facing.
It is highly concerning that the Biden administration continues to downplay the economic crisis the country is currently experiencing. The soaring prices of food, housing, and other basic amenities have become a major burden on the American working class. It is high time that the current administration engages in serious measures to alleviate the crisis instead of using diversionary tactics to distract from the issue. The country deserves better, and it is about time that President Biden and his team realize that.
