In a newly resurfaced video, President Joe Biden’s Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm suggested Americans could avoid the pain of high gas prices if they just bought themselves an electric vehicle.
On Tuesday, The clip was retweeted by the Republican National Committee with the caption reading, “Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm insists high gas prices are ‘a very compelling case’ to buy an electric vehicle.”
“If you filled up your EV [electric vehicle] And if you fill up your gas tank with gasoline, you would save $ 60 per fill-up by using electric rather than gasoline but it’s a very compelling case, but again, we want to bring the price down at the point of purchase,” Granholm said.
Granholm previously served as the Governor of Michigan, but her comments show her distance from the lives of most mainstream Americans.
Currently, electric vehicles are out of reach for most Americans. According to Politico, the cost of an electric vehicle is still $15,000 more than an equivalent combustion car.

Last year in November, the former Governor laughed when asked what she would do to solve the gas prices crisis.
Granholm is worth nearly $8 million, according to Forbes, and recently served as a director for an electric car company.
Just last month, she made a killing off another electric manufacturer. She took home $1.6 million off a recent trade in the company Proterra, says an Energy Department spokesperson.
Her comments came after Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow said that gas prices don’t bother her because she owns an electric vehicle. Critics called her comments tactless.
“On the issue of gas prices – after waiting a long time to have enough chips in this country to finally get my electric vehicle – I got it and drove it from here to Michigan this past weekend and went to every gas station. ‘How high it was,'” the Michigan senator said at the time
She added, “I am looking forward to the opportunity for us to move to vehicles that are dependent on the oil companies and the international markets.”
Democrats think they are sly by telling us to get electric cars. Sure, they are great in their own ways, but trying to force consumers to switch through government market manipulation has its drawbacks. It’s a major mistake for the Biden administration, though. There is no way they can transition most Americans over to electric before the upcoming 2022 election – nor can they before the 2024 election.
