Former Ronald Reagan campaign chair Ed Rollins has launched a brand new PAC to try and encourage Ron DeSantis to run against former President Trump in 2024.
The “Ready for Ron” PAC is led by Ed Rollins, Reagan’s campaign chairman and Lilian Rodriguez-Baz, an appellate attorney and conservative activist. Notably, the Committee is not actually attached to Ron DeSantis and is instead collecting money and supporters to “convince” him to run.
In a statement seemingly sidestepping a push against Trump, Rollins declared, “The era of President Trump was wonderful, but now, since he isn’t currently running, we must get ready for a new leader, we must be Ready for Ron.” Despite Rollin’s claim, Trump has frequently teased his own 2024 run.
Rollins also sits at the head of another PAC, Donald Trump Great America, a Super PAC which ran ads during the 2016 election. Interestingly, this other PAC of his purports to support Trump’s candidacy for President. Rollins banked $240,000 off his pro-Trump PAC in 2017 and 2018 alone for “payroll and strategic consulting”, according to the Center for Public Integrity.
Rodriguez-Baz, a Cuban immigrant who came to Florida, added “We see so many people that have moved to Florida in droves, and that’s something that you know, anybody can verify. It’s an undeniable fact. And a big part of that is because of what Ron DeSantis has done, his COVID responses. We’ve essentially have, we have a leader who’s not catering to the trends of this woke and toxic culture.”
The launch of this new Pro-DeSantis PAC comes on the heels of a new poll showing DeSantis would beat Trump 38% to 32% in the Wisconsin Republican primary if the vote were held today.
DeSantis has refused to give any real indication on his own intentions for the 2024 election so far. When asked if he was considering it on “The Truth with Lisa Booth“, DeSantis said he was focusing on his own reelection this year before adding,
“My goal would be, if we win the election really big, people like you who analyze these things are going to say: ‘The days of Florida being a swing state are over. Florida is a red state.’ And I think that’s because of a lot of what we’ve done.”
It’s always surprising to see DC strategists supporting 2 opposing candidates at the same time. Do you think Donald Trump is planning to run again in 2024? Would you support him or Ron DeSantis if he does?
