A young kid in Michigan was caught on a gas station security camera pulling off a heist with his grandpa’s gun, which he did shoot.
The video begins with the preteen patiently waiting in line while the gas station worker unsuspectedly attended to the customer in front of him.
The young man then walks up calmly, pulls out the handgun, holds up his black backpack, and tells the lady behind the counter, “put the money in the bag.”
The attendant is clearly in shock at this point, seemingly believing that it is some sort of childhood prank. She says “What?” before asking the boy “Are you serious.”
The kid then puts his bag on the table, holds the gun up away from him and, without saying a word, blasts a hole through the ceiling of the gas station. He then simply adds a “Yeah.”
Clearly in a state of panic and anger at this point, the gas station attendant goes and grabs the money. Meanwhile, the kid appears to be struggling to reload and cock the gun while the customer who was waiting behind him the whole time begins to back away.
Finally, the attendant puts the money in his bag and hands it to him saying “Here. Take it.” The boy then calmly walks away while the attendant goes for the phone on the counter, presumably to call the police.
Police received a call about an armed robbery at the gas station at 4 P.M. on Wednesday. It turns out the gas station he robbed was only 1 block from the station, so the child crook was arrested just minutes later by Hartford Police Chief Tressa Beltran.
While the arrest happened without incident, the young man was charged with armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharge of a firearm in Van Buren County Family Court on Thursday.
Officers said the child told a friend at his school about his plans to steal a gun from the gun safe of his grandfather, who serves as the child’s legal guardian. The grandpa told cops that he had no clue how his grandson got into the case in the first place.
Hartford Lt. Mike Prince said the boy told him he didn’t do it for the money, that he planned to throw the cash into the sewer once he was done. He didn’t give a reason for the crime.
When reporters sought out the grandfather, they found a sign on his door that read, “No comment at this time, no pics. I have to live in this town and I need some sleep.”
The store clerk, whose name is Jessica, told News Channel 3. “I thought he was a kid, not even 10 years old. He sounded way too calm. I seriously thought it was a prank until I heard the gun go off.”
She continued, “Part of me wanted to hold the kid because he has so many problems, then it’s hard to feel bad when he did something like this. I always thought if I were robbed I’m giving them the money, no amount of money is worth my life.”
Despite being just 12, the kid in this video could have easily killed someone in the gas station or himself. How do you think he was able to access his grandpa’s gun? Should he be tried as an adult for the crime or do you think he may be mentally ill considering his reasoning for committing it?
