Some of the more liberal Democrats in and out of politics like to refer to themselves as socialists. Both Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez call themselves Democratic Socialists. A rose by any other name is still a rose, as they say.
“Democratic socialism is defined as having a socialist economy in which the means of production are socially and collectively owned or controlled, alongside a liberal democratic political system of government. Democratic socialists reject most self-described socialist states and Marxism–Leninism,” according to Wikipedia. This sort of political philosophy has no business in the United States of America, for many reasons, not the least of which is the things that socialist countries do.
For example, “The left-wing Labour government of Jacinda Ardern [in New Zealand] has drafted proposals to levy taxes against farmers for the methane emissions produced by cows and sheep in what would be the world’s first green tax on livestock,” reports Breitbart. And by methane emissions, they mean the farts and burps of cows and sheep.
New Zealand has “approximately 10 million cows and 26 million sheep grazing on its pastures,” reports Breitbart. “As a result, around half of the country’s emissions come from farming, mostly from the methane produced by the belching or flatulence of cows and sheep. Previously, agriculture has been exempt from the government’s carbon emissions trading schemes,” the news source continued.
The push to tax cow and sheep farts will likely cause the meat and other products produced from them to increase in price, both in New Zealand and in the countries to which the products are exported. And given that New Zealand accounts for just 0.09 per cent of the world’s emissions, according to Breitbart, it won’t matter much to saving the climate/world.
