Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis, the wife of Governor Ron DeSantis, has taken it on herself to blast California Governor Gavin Newsom online.
The move came after Newsom used the Special Olympics as his excuse to run a large ad blitz in the state using his California campaign funds.
“He did something that tipped me very directly, and that was going after the Special Olympics,” Newsom said, according to The Sacramento Bee. “I had an emotional response to that. That led to the consideration of doing something a little bit more expressive and that was the determination on the ad.”
Newsom was referencing DeSantis’s pressure campaign which forced the Special Olympics to drop their mask and vaccine requirements for 2022 or be shut down by Florida. The move was hailed by multiple Special Olympic athletes, who may have otherwise been barred for being unvaccinated, even by the orders of their doctor.
Casey DeSantis clearly took offense to Newsom’s comment. The First Lady immediately went on the attack against the California Governor online, saying that the DeSantis family will continue to fight for the disabled no matter what Newsom says. She also attached a video of her husband Ron with one of the athletes who he allowed to compete.
“For those who need a reminder … this is why we fight. Isabella competed in the Special Olympics because @RonDeSantisFL stood up and fought for her and all the other Special Olympians who would have been sidelined. We will never stop fighting for people like Isabella.”
Last week Gavin Newsom launched a large scale ad buy in Florida attacking the Governor for his policies. Both governors are seen as top 2024 Presidential contenders and both are currently facing their own reelection campaigns in November of this year. Do you think someone like Newsom should be allowed to buy attack ads against politicians in other states using their campaign funds?
