On Saturday, a video of a youth basketball referee from Edmond, Oklahoma knocked out a parent in the middle of the game. The footage shows him running across the court away from what looks to be a fight and grabbing a man wearing a black shirt and punching him. The assaulted parent immediately hits the ground and looks totally knocked out. The video took place at the OKC center and has generated 4 million views online.
The video went viral with the caption, “Youth basketball is in a rough space.”
The video was shot in Edmond, Oklahoma and went viral after one of the team’s coaches confronted the referee. Multiple people held him back and one of the fans ran on the court. This caused the referee on camera to run at the man and knock him clean out with a roundhouse punch. Allegedly, there were two different attacks on the referees during the game.
Most of the parents tried to break up the fight and separate the referees and parents, but that did not stop the knock out of one of the parents.
The Lost Ogle posted on Twitter, “We’ve acquired more video from the fight at The Score on Saturday night. It looks like a coach was the instigator and a ref took a swing. The guy who was leveled by another ref was possibly trying to keep the peace.”
Seems like referees are tired of parents attacking them and yelling at them while they do their job. Obviously, getting into a brawl on court is not the right solution, but we’ve all seen the nasty things that parents say to referees in games.
