Democratic San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Shamann Walton was accused of calling a young Black cadet the “N-word” while passing through a security checkpoint in City Hall last month.
According to the report, Walton became irate after the cadet asked him to remove his belt to pass through the metal detector instead of offering to use the metal detector wand.
Here’s Walton saying that the banning of Juul cigarettes is actually a good thing.
San Francisco Undersheriff Joseph Engler noted what happened after the city’s Human Resources Director Carol Isen suggested that he document the interaction as a possible hostile work environment incident.
According to the memo filed by Engler, the high ranking Democrat became “very angry” at the cadet before saying “‘it is ‘N-words like you that looks like me that is always the problem’ referring to the security protocols as some ‘N-word s***’ several times as he yelled at” the young man.
The cadet, who went by the name Emare Butler, told the San Francisco Chronicle that Walton also said, “You must not know who I am, I’ll whoop you’re [sic] a**.” Butler added, “It was embarrassing. You come to work, and you don’t know who his friends are, you don’t know who he has alliances with. I’m just an employee here.”
According to a second memo, Walton admitted to and even defended his actions that day, saying “how he believed that the way he had used (the N-word) could be defended.”
Walton continued, “These incidents are in clear dispute and seek to vilify me and my character. I would never expect the Sheriff’s department to provide an accurate account of what transpired between two Black men.”
It seems clear from the various descriptions of the incident that Walton absolutely did verbally assault Butler in a racist way. Why do you think the powerful Democrat is trying to use the “racist” defense despite both of them being Black? Will he be held accountable?
