On Tuesday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi flew into Taipei, Taiwan amidst threats from the Chinese Communist Party. Pelosi was the first US House Speaker to visit Taiwan since Newt Gingrich and started to babbling what seemed like nonsense about “President Benjamin Franklin.”

“One of our sources of strength is democracy,”

According to Reuters:

Some of China’s planned military exercises were to take place within Taiwan’s 12 nautical mile sea and air territory, according to Taiwan’s defence ministry, an unprecedented move that a senior defence official described to reporters as “amounting to a sea and air blockade of Taiwan.

Taiwan scrambled jets on Wednesday to warn away 27 Chinese aircraft in its air defence zone, the island’s defence ministry said, adding that 22 of them crossed the median line separating the island from China.

Pelosi arrived with a congressional delegation on her unannounced but closely watched visit late on Tuesday, defying China’s repeated warnings, in a trip that she said demonstrated unwavering U.S. commitment to Taiwan’s democracy.

This comes at the same time that her husband finally plead guilty driving under the influence.

A lawyer for Paul Pelosi, the multimillionaire husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, appeared on his behalf in a Napa County, California, court for his arraignment on DUI charges Wednesday morning.

The attorney, Amanda Bevins, entered a plea of not guilty to both counts on her client’s behalf before Napa County Superior Court Judge Monique Langhorne.

Many people have condemned Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan as risky and others have said that it gives China a reason to invade. It’s definitely ignited a war of words between our nation and theirs, but will it lead to an outright war? Let us know your thoughts. Did Pelosi make the right decision to go there or is she the wrong person to be there in the first place?
