PETA’s newest issue has to deal with the coffee-giant Starbucks, and their newest demand has protesters doing something completely crazy that attracted the attention of the police.
Police arrested four PETA protesters Thursday after the group blocked access to a Starbucks store in the West End, according to News 5 Nashville. High plant-based milk prices were driving the group crazy.
At the West End Avenue entrances to the coffee shop, concrete was poured over the feet of four protesters, blocking access to the parking lot and drive-thru. Further blocking access to the store, the group linked together with caution tape.
As for the vegan milk upcharge, PETA states on its website, “It’s awesome that Starbucks offers so many delicious vegan milk options — such as coconut, soy, oat, and almond milk — but customers shouldn’t have to pay extra to have dairy-free milk in their drinks.”
It took Metro police about four hours to free each protester from the concrete.
The four individuals were then taken into custody.
Business Insider reports that Starbucks added oat milk in March 2021, alongside almond milk in 2016 and coconut milk in 2015. Plant-based milk has been available at the chain since 2004 with the addition of soy milk.”
The outlet notes that “plant-based milk currently comes with a 70 cent upcharge on any drinks they are added to.”
This protest was more comical than it was serious. You could even say it was “udder” nonsense.
