According to The Hill. President Trump said on Thursday that he doesn’t envision being indicted over classified documents or a scheme to put forward alternate electors after the 2020 election, but if he were, it wouldn’t deter him from a presidential run in 2024.
In the interview Trump claimed he had no involvement in a plot to put alternate electors in Georgia that would have tipped the state for him despite President Biden winning by thousands of votes, though he insisted the concept was “very common.”
Prosecutors in Georgia are investigating the scheme and interviewing Trump associates like Rudy Giuliani.
Trump also denied any wrongdoing in handling classified documents after the FBI searched his Mar-a-Lago estate last month. After finding dozens of classified documents at Trump’s residence, the agency unsuccessfully tried to retrieve the materials.
In a reaffirmation of his claim that he had declassified all of the documents he kept at his house more than a year after leaving the White House, Trump has denied he could have declassified them without going through a formal process, and Trump’s legal team has not argued in court that he did.
Trump’s claim that he declassified documents at Mar-a-Lago has been disputed by many legal experts and political opponents. In an affidavit for the raid, federal investigators stated that neither Trump nor his counsel informed them that the documents had been declassified.
According to The Washington Examiner. The seized materials ranged from “CONFIDENTIAL to TOP SECRET information,” and DOJ officials are investigating whether there was obstruction of justice and potential breaches of the Espionage Act.
According to Trump, his mind has already been made up about a 2024 expedition and the only remaining question is when he will announce it.
