This development is huge!

According to The Daily wire. Several Republican attorneys general are expected to write a letter opposing Visa, Mastercard, and American Express’ plans to add a new code to identify gun purchases at firearm retailers on Tuesday.

A draft of the letter reads. “Categorizing the constitutionally protected right to purchase firearms unfairly singles out law-abiding merchants and consumers alike,”

According to the report, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and Montana Attorney General Austin Knudson are leading the effort.

The attorneys general of California and New York recently wrote to the three companies encouraging them to categorize gun purchases differently. It came after the Supreme Court struck down a New York law in June requiring concealed-carry permits to adhere to unconstitutional requirements.

It follows a letter from more than 100 House Republicans last week demanding answers from major credit card companies over their controversial separate categorization of gun sales. Fox 10 has more.

Representatives of Visa, MasterCard, and American Express were also sent letters by House GOP leaders, as The Daily Wire previously reported. Earlier, Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called for the companies to answer questions about their decision to adopt new Merchant Category Codes (MCCs) established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

According to the House letter, categorizing gun purchases and flagging law enforcement was an attempt to skirt federal law by creating a gun registry.

While gun rights advocates see the move as an erosion of Second Amendment rights, many people are in support of the reclassification of gun purchases.

Several Democratic lawmakers, including Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Pennsylvania Rep. Madeleine Dean, support the new classification. In a tweet sent September 6th Warren said “Credit card companies like Visa, Mastercard, and AmericanExpress can and should do more to help stop mass shootings. RepDean and I are urging these companies to step up and help identify suspicious purchases to prevent gun violence,” Warren tweeted earlier this month.

As reported by Fox News. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, argues the change is merely common sense and makes suspect gun purchases easier to investigate.

If the companies move forward with the plan, Republicans in Congress have threatened to take action; however, this threat depends on Republicans controlling the House or Senate next year.

This move by the Democrats is a clear attempt to infringe on American’s second amendment rights. There is no way of knowing the left won’t abuse the reclassification and we need to do everything we can to fight back against this. This adds another important issue for voters that will motivate them to help elect a Republican majority come November.
