The Truth Social Android App is now available in the Samsung Galaxy Store for U.S.-based Samsung smartphone users, according to a press release by the Trump Media & Technology Group. Samsung controls 30 percent of the domestic smartphone market, according to publicly available data, which represents a major milestone for Truth Social’s availability in the United States.
The smartphone market in the United States is one of the world’s largest, with approximately 298 million smartphone users as of 2021.
In 2021, there were more than 130 million Android smartphone users in the United States.
Some have criticized the larger, more established social media sites – such as Twitter and Facebook – for selectively censoring content, but Truth Social has emerged as a popular alternative as noted by Just the News.
Meanwhile, Truth Social is still not available on the Google Play Store.
As we previously reported in early September, the Trump Media & Technology Group hit back after months of Google Play Store users not being able to download and use the Truth Social App.
At the time, a Google spokesperson said the platform did not have the “effective” moderation needed to comply with the Google Play app store’s terms of service. In particular, the outlet noted that Google was concerned about violations of the app’s policies prohibiting content with physical threats and incitements to violence.
As such, Trump Media & Technology Group hit back against Google’s claims in a statement, saying in part, “TMTG has continuously worked in good faith with Google to ensure that the Truth Social Android App complies with Google’s policies without compromising our promise to be a haven for free speech. As our users know, Truth Social is building a vibrant, family-friendly environment that works expeditiously to remove content that violates its Terms of Service – which independent observers have noted are among the most robust in the industry.”
