The fate of three Democrats in the House of Representatives has just become crystal clear as the GOP has officially secured the House. This is a happy moment for Republicans, who have been waiting for this moment for years.
In January, when a new Republican majority is sworn in, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to take over from Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.
The Conservative Brief reports, during comments on Saturday, the California Republican said he plans to remove Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from the House Foreign Affairs Committee for a number of past “antisemitic” remarks.
On Twitter, McCarthy shared his remarks and commented, “Last year, I promised that when I became Speaker, I would remove Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee based on her repeated anti-semitic and anti-American remarks. I’m keeping that promise.”
That’s not the only Democrat McCarthy has plans for.
According to the Washington Times, Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell can expect to be kicked off the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence as well, according to sources close to McCarthy. During his campaign, Schiff falsely claimed to have seen intelligence that Trump colluded with Russia. He also heavily promoted the debunked Steele Dossier. Republicans called for Swalwell’s removal because of his relationship with a Chinese spy, but the Democrat-led House refused.
McCarthy’s plans to remove Congressmen from their committees is not something new.
As noted by the Washington Times, Nancy Pelosi set the precedent when she removed Republicans — first Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia and later Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona — from all their committee assignments over incendiary online posts and rhetoric.
