In an announcement this week, Mayor Eric Adams announced the city would provide childcare assistance to families with undocumented children.
According to a press release from the Mayor’s office, “Promise NYC” will provide child care assistance to low-income families whose immigration status prevents them from receiving other, subsidized child care programs funded by the federal government, and partner with organizations with immigrant communities.
On Twitter, Mayor Adams wrote, “Navigating obstacles in a new city and country are tough. Coupling that with a lack of child care can prevent families from achieving the dream they so desperately set out to achieve. Our Promise NYC program alleviates stress from those concerns.”
It was pointed out in the press release that those who are eligible to receive federally funded benefits like childcare are American citizens, legal permanent residents, as well as people who are foreign nationals with a qualified immigration status. It appears that this “excludes thousands of families in New York City,” which, as Townhall has reported, is a “sanctuary city.”
600 children will be supported over the next six months through the program, which will launch in January.
Adams revealed in October that providing for the influx of illegal immigrants would cost at least $1 billion. Republican governors along the U.S.-Mexico border began busing illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities shortly before this announcement.
It is disgraceful that the Democrat Mayor of NYC has rolled out a plan that caters to illegal aliens and their children without taking into account the citizens of New York who are in need of childcare assistance. This disgraceful act shows a lack of respect for our country’s laws and should not be allowed to stand. It is unjust, unfair, and unacceptable to prioritize those who are here illegally over those who are following the rules and trying to make ends meet. Citizens of New York should come first when it comes to assistance from their government and all resources available should be channeled towards helping those who uphold their duty as citizens before any resources go towards helping those people who come illegally from outside our borders.
