House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Sunday that the “Twitter Files” can serve as a model for releasing Capitol security footage from January 6, 2021.
He told Maria Bartiromo, host of Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures, that he intends to release the tapes due to the “politicization” fostered by the January 6 Committee and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
According to the speaker, Twitter gave independent journalists access to internal communications via the “Twitter Files” threads under the leadership of CEO Elon Musk.
According to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), a member of the House Republican conference, this footage would provide a more comprehensive picture of what happened that day, rather than cherry-picking moments to further inflame divisions in our country used by the January 6 Committee.
The footage could provide exculpatory evidence to January 6 defendants, Gaetz told CNN. In addition, he dismissed concerns about security implications of disclosing the tapes.
Last week, McCarthy told reporters that he wants to be “very thoughtful” about releasing Capitol security footage, but also stressed that he is “engaged to do that.”
The release of this footage is key in providing answers and justice in light of the events that took place on that day, and House Speaker McCarthy’s plan to release the footage like the “Twitter Files” is genius. For too long, Democrats have been hiding behind their false narrative of what occurred, and it’s time that the truth comes to light. Americans deserve to know what really happened, and releasing this footage is the first step in ensuring that justice is served.
