On Monday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced that he had selected a group of Republican lawmakers to serve on the new House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party.
According to the Washington Examiner, House Republicans previously established a task force to investigate issues like intellectual property theft and national security threats to the U.S. and its allies as part of their efforts to combat threats from China.
The newly formed panel is set to be chaired by Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), who recently went on FOX News to discuss the importance of the select committee.
With strong bipartisan support, the House passed a resolution creating the panel by a 365-65 vote earlier this month.
According to the resolution, the committee will be authorized to “investigate and submit policy recommendations concerning the status of the economic, technological, and security progress of the Chinese Communist Party and its competition with the United States.”
