In the House of Representatives, there is still room for nonpartisan encouragement.
James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, took a moment to offer encouragement to his Democratic rival, Rep. Jamie Raskin, who announced in December that he was undergoing chemotherapy for diffuse large B cell lymphoma.
Comer’s kind words clearly touched Raskin, who was wearing a bandana to cover hair loss caused by chemotherapy.

Recently, Comer has been on cable news frequently hammering President Joe Biden’s alleged “influence peddling,” which he is committed to investigating.
The Democrat Raskin was also heavily involved in the impeachment hearings of former President Donald Trump, as well as in the January 6 House Select Committee hearings.
Therefore, this moment of graceful humanity is all the more notable because they are both committed partisans.

Congressman Raskin announced his Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma diagnosis just before the new year, adding that he was beginning a “course of chemo-immunotherapy on an outpatient basis.”
While we are used to hearing highly charged and often combative rhetoric among the political class, the recent touching moment of human connection and support between Comer and Raskin was refreshing to see. Congressman Comer set aside politics and took time to offer his heartfelt support for Democrat Congressman Raskin in front of America. This kind gesture serves as a reminder that at the end of the day, we all are human beings with universal needs for understanding and compassion. Thank you, Rep. Comer, for reminding us how we can be kind to one another– despite partisan differences– in times of hardship and difficulty. We wish strength for Rep. Raskin and may he be rapidly restored to health by God’s grace brought to all spiritual truth.
