**Tensions rise as LGBTQ flag burned outside transgender teacher’s classroom amid parental opposition to planned Pride event**

A dispute between parents and school officials at Saticoy Elementary School in Los Angeles has escalated, as an LGBTQ flag was burned outside the classroom of a transgender teacher. This shocking incident followed ongoing debates surrounding a planned event, at which students would learn about non-traditional marriages from a book reading. Parents have voiced their concerns regarding the age-appropriate nature of introducing such concepts to young children.

Local police are now investigating the flag burning, while the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is treating it as a “hate-motivated incident.” In response, the district has also temporarily removed the transgender teacher from the school as a safety measure. Addressing parental concerns, the LAUSD highlighted its commitment to engaging with families on the topic of inclusion and encouraged open discussions on diversity within school communities. The school has also notably indicated that attendance at the upcoming event is voluntary.

Parents like George Dzhabroyan worry about whether exposure to the event is suitable for the children’s age group, emphasizing the importance of parental input in such decisions. Fellow parent Jack Satamian has also decided to keep his children at home on the day of the Pride event, underlining that discussions about LGBTQ issues should be left to parents to decide when it’s appropriate for their children.

Following the flag burning, a larger flag has now been placed outside the teacher’s classroom as tensions continue to rise ahead of the planned Pride event.

**As the community remains divided, the ongoing contentious debate highlights the importance of keeping parents and families informed and involved in decisions affecting their children’s education.**
