An 11-year-old black boy has been charged with a series of robberies in Washington, D.C. This recent string of crimes highlights the city’s grave safety concerns. According to data from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), robberies have surged by 24 percent compared to the same time last year. Worse still, homicides have increased by 15 percent and total violent crime is up by 16 percent. The situation has worsened over the Memorial Day weekend, with shootings, a car being set on fire with people inside, and a woman found with stab wounds in the Navy Yard neighborhood. It’s clear that crime is out of control in the Nation’s Capital, and it’s time for action.
