**Unprovoked Attack at St. Louis Train Stop Leaves Illinois Man Severely Injured**
A brutal attack involving a group of assailants took place on Memorial Day at a St. Louis train stop, resulting in severe injuries for an Illinois man. The victim’s wife, helpless to intervene, recounts the horror of the seemingly random and sustained assault.
Illinois couple, Lee and Deyona Kunselman, were enjoying an evening at an Illinois casino with friends before getting on a MetroLink train to St. Louis for karaoke. Upon arriving at the 8th and Pine stop, their fun night took a sudden and terrifying turn.
A group of four to five males brutally attacked Lee and another man as soon as the train doors opened. The assailants, described as tall, thin, and African-American, in their 20s, did not try to take anything and gave no apparent reason for the aggression. Deyona vividly remembers the terrifying scene, “I thought he was going to die because they kept stomping on his head so hard.”
The attack reportedly lasted for about five minutes and left Lee with a concussion, requiring at least 12 stitches to reattach his eyelid. Lee cannot currently see out of his left eye and is unable to work. The other male victim suffered a broken nose and a fractured eye socket.
Efforts to contact 911 during the assault were futile as no emergency personnel appeared at the train station. The group was forced to find alternative means of reaching the hospital, with Lee’s wife noting, “Even an ambulance wasn’t getting there. Uber showed up quicker than the ambulance.”
Since the incident, a MetroLink officer has been in touch with Deyona, and authorities have found security camera footage of the attack. St. Louis police have informed her that four suspects have been identified. Currently, no arrests have been made.
For the time being, the Kunselmans are hesitant to ride the MetroLink train again and are unlikely to do so unless security is placed on every train. Deyona remains shaken by the experience, stating, “I think it’s just traumatizes us right now. Maybe later, but right now, no.”
