In addition to the familial connections, Trump’s legal team argues that Merchan should withdraw from the case due to his previous donations to Biden and his handling of former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg’s case. The filing states that Merchan’s role in encouraging Weisselberg to cooperate against Trump demonstrates a preconceived bias against the former president.
