**Oregon Man Convicted for Booby-Trapping Home, Leaving FBI Agent Injured**
A 71-year-old Oregon man, Gregory Lee Rodvelt, has been found guilty of assaulting a federal officer and other charges after he booby-trapped his former home, resulting in an FBI agent being injured. The intricate traps and subsequent convictions have led to a potential life sentence for Rodvelt.
In September 2018, a property that once belonged to Gregory Lee Rodvelt experienced an invasion unlike any other. Law enforcement officials, including Oregon State Police and FBI agents, discovered an array of homemade traps awaiting them on the property, a result of Rodvelt losing ownership due to a lawsuit. Learning of the appointment of a receiver responsible for selling his former home, Rodvelt embarked on a mission straight out of a Macaulay Culkin movie.
The booby traps ranged from steel animal traps affixed under the hood of the minivan blocking the home’s gate, to a modified rat trap designed to accept a shotgun shell intended to fire when the garage door opened. Another lethal trap involved a hot tub placed on its side, rigged to trigger when a gate opened and roll toward the unsuspecting opener, emulating a scene from “Indiana Jones – Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
Upon further investigation, FBI agents found barred windows and bullet-ridden security doors at the front and back of the house. The pièce de résistance, however, lay in the center of the entryway.
