**Arizona Governor Vetoes Bill to Stop Filming Porn in Public Schools**

Despite the incident where two Arizona teachers were fired for allegedly filming explicit content in a middle school, Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed a bill that aimed to prevent similar acts in the future. The bill sought to forbid filming sexually explicit materials in public schools and other state-funded buildings.

In November 2021, a married couple, Samantha and Dillon Peer, were reportedly fired from their teaching positions at Lake Havasu Unified School District after it was discovered they had filmed explicit content in a classroom and posted it on OnlyFans. This incident sparked controversy and raised concerns about the potential risks of exposing children to inappropriate content within the school environment.

To address this issue, Arizona Republicans introduced Senate Bill 1696, which would have imposed penalties for those caught filming sexually explicit content in public buildings. However, the bill did not receive much support from Democratic legislators, who suggested it was an attempt to ban certain books. Despite acknowledging the controversy surrounding the incident at Thunderbolt Middle School, Governor Hobbs vetoed the bill, stating it was “little more than a thinly-veiled effort to ban books.”

Opponents of the bill alleged that it would be used to ban classic literature and books related to puberty and pregnancy due to the presence of sexual content. However, Republicans clarified that their focus was on preventing exposure to explicit materials specifically targeted at minors, rather than banning traditional literature or educational resources.
