As the 2024 election draws closer, many Americans are questioning whether President Joe Biden is fit for another term as the commander-in-chief due to his advanced age. With Biden being the oldest president to take office, some are understandably concerned about his ability to lead the country, especially as he is already in his 80s. However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seems to disagree with these concerns and has defended the president’s age.

During a recent appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Pelosi dismissed the idea that age is a factor in Biden’s ability to lead. In fact, Pelosi went so far as to suggest that Biden’s age should be seen as an asset, citing his “experience” and “knowledge” as important qualities.
But while Pelosi may be willing to brush aside concerns about Biden’s age, the American people are not. According to a recent poll by The Washington Post and ABC News, a majority of voters, 68 percent, believe that Biden is “too old” for another term.
Given this reality, it’s time for Pelosi to stop making excuses and face the facts. The American people deserve a leader who is in good health and capable of making sound decisions on their behalf. Biden’s age, and the health concerns that often come with it, simply make him unable to meet this standard.
Moreover, Pelosi’s dismissal of concerns about Biden’s age is disingenuous at best. She claims that age is “relative,” citing a 100-year-old screenwriter and a 94-year-old architect as examples of people who are still going strong. But while it’s certainly true that some individuals remain active and productive well into their golden years, the presidency is a grueling position that requires sharp mental acuity and physical stamina.
Even if Biden appears to be in good health now, there’s no way to predict how he will fare over the next four years.
In the end, the American people deserve better than a president who is too old and too frail to lead effectively. If Pelosi truly cares about the future of this country, she needs to stop making excuses and acknowledge the reality of Biden’s age.
