Google’s half-baked excuse for removing the educational non-profit PragerU from its Play store doesn’t hold water. They call it an ‘error’ after being caught red-handed. So let’s dive in and unpack what really happened here, and why it matters to you.
It all started with PragerU’s new documentary “Dear Infidels: A Warning to America,” a vital piece showcasing the grim reality of Islamic extremism. Google didn’t take too kindly to this and promptly kicked PragerU off its store. Following public outcry, Google sheepishly reinstated the non-profit, calling the earlier ban a ‘mistake’.
Sounds fishy, doesn’t it? Doing wrong, then backtracking under public pressure and calling it a ‘re-review’. Thanks to the strong and vocal support from you, the public, Google was effectively cornered and made to reverse their decision.
But their reasons? Google supposedly doesn’t stand for apps that ‘promote violence or incite hatred’. Yet, PragerU’s documentary wasn’t inciting anything, it was simply shining a light on the issue of radical Islam. The film states, “Radical Islam poses a significant threat to our freedom.” That’s no incitement; it’s a sobering fact.
Dennis Prager, founder of PragerU, reiterated the importance of their documentary. He shared how it warns the West about the dangers posed by radical Islam, through the experiences of those who have escaped its rule. No hysteria there, simply truth-telling.
Google has shown its bias before. Front Page Magazine experienced similar treatment after an article on radical Islamic terrorism. Daniel Greenfield, the journalist, remarked that to keep the peace with Google, they would have to “stop talking about Islamic terrorism.” It seems that for Google, anything critical of radical Islam is reason for censorship.
This March, Google’s AI chatbot Gemini was caught downplaying a verified terrorist attack by Hamas. After a slap on the wrist, Google vowed to feed its AI the “most up-to-date information.” Yet again, they’re hardly owning up to their repeated blunders.
PragerU is part of the MRC Free Speech Alliance, a group that advocates for the First Amendment rights. Its treatment sheds light on the ongoing issue of conservative voices being trampled by Big Tech. This systematic bias needs to stop.
